Question: What are these ratios I keep seeing?

Throughout the site, I see ratios such as 2.0.1 or 1.0.1 when talking about collections of a particular species. What do these mean? I've assumed they have something to do with gender, but otherwise, I've got nothing.

An example:

2.3.4

It means 2 males, 3 females and 4 unsexed animals (either juveniles or simply unsexed). The order is always the same.
