Hi everybody, can you guys give me your thoughts on what color these babies are? I have 7 babies - all look exactly alike, I expected them to be normal but they look really light to me. There mother was albino and there father is normal but really dark - no spots or speckles. Watcha think??

These are melaniod axolotls. They are not albino at all. Can you send me a pic of the parents so I can have a better identification? Also the reason why they are light is because they are young. Their pigment has not fully developed yet. when they get older their color will be more pronounced.

Thanks, I will send pictures of the parents when I get home. Yes, clearly NOT albino but didn’t know what (if any) morph they might be

Female is albino, male is darker/melanoid, I just put them in the tub for picture purposes only

I think that the babies are wild/melaniod. My guess is that the albino's genes are probably d/d and a/a. The melaniod genes are most likely ax/ax and m/m. In the albino you only see the a/a part and in the melaniod you only see the m/m part. The babies must have the d/d from the albino and the m/m from the melaniod. The reflective yellow spots on the babies make me think that they have d/d (wild type) in them.

I can send pics if I still have them but I’d like to sell them or trade them at my LFS.
