Help! My AC is out and the tank read 78 F when i got home. We have 2 full grown axolotls and 45 freshly hatched babies. How can i cool the tank and the jars for the babies? What’re symptoms of being too hot?

The best thing is an aquarium fan or a chiller to prevent freak accidents like this in the future. The adults might be fine but they'll definitely suffer early symptoms of hyperthermia. The babies might be lost, unfortunately, but if you can get them fridged, it may be their best chance.

Hyperthermia symptoms include stress, inappetence, vomiting of food, and susceptibility to bacterial infection, as well as death, but death usually happens with prolonged exposure. If necessary, get the adults into the fridge as well, but definitely get the babies in the fridge. Hope everything goes well.🙏

We will be looking in to one of those; thank you for the suggestion!

i’ve heard about fridging them but i was worried it would be too cold or wouldnt work for a longer period like a day? i floated some ice last night and it went down for a while and we have someone working on it now. if i put them in the fridge now and take them out later will they be shocked after i put them in their tank? (i would of course let the temp adjust beforehand.)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
