What is the difference between melanoid leucistic and melanoid?

Ahh! Brain fart - of course I meant the difference between melanoid leucistic and "ordinary" leucistic...!

I've seen leucistic axies without a shiny eye ring being labeled as just leucistic, and this was on sites and blogs that showed a comparison of axolotl colors!

Is my new little guy a melanoid leucistic, or a leucistic? I can't see a shiny eye ring around his eyes (top left pic gives off that impression, but it's his skin). Missing a gill from living with siblings:

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
