I’ve currently got a breeding trio of T. dobrogicus, and I’m wanting to try something new. I’m low on space unfortunately, so I’m looking for anything that could work in a 5-8 gallon setup. I’m not looking to house more than one newt, it’s just for display as a pet. What species could do well in a fully aquatic setup of that size? Currently looking into Lissotriton helveticus, Neurergus species, and Cynops species. Let me know what you think!

Lissotriton helveticus isn't adapted to a fully aquatic setup.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
