Upload isnt allowing me to show you a picture by my axie I've only had about 3 weeks so I'm very new to this world. However I can't find anything online anywhere to help me with this.

Axie was all smooth and as expected when we bought him from a garden centre, he'd been dropped off there by his previous owner with no background information. A day or two ago I noticed a lump of what I assumed to be flesh protruding at the base of his tail, I assumed this was his ***** and thought nothing of it, but then the next time I looked it was almost as long as his body, still looks like his flesh, then a few hours later its much smaller and there are slimy globules in his tank! So I think he's losing what ever it is. It's still there, currently mid length, I'm at a loss. Doesnt look like spawn, eggs or spermaphores at all, hes eating a frozen cube of either damphina or tubiflex every day (tried him on earth worms and he's not shown any interest) and he's pooping every 2/3 days, had a poop yday and from what i can tell hes had this slimy appendage hanging out of his bum. I'm at a total loss, has anyone seen this before and do I need to go the vets?

Thank you!

Edit...i think I figured out how up uploads a few pics

Can you post another picture? I am not sure what is going on in the pic and what I should be looking for.

I dont think it's shedding, it seems to be coming out of his bum. I will try for another pic first thing. X

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
