I have a Oregon ensatina and I was wondering what vitamins they need since my frog needs calcium.

I am new to Caudata so sorry if I am doing anything wrong.

Thanks for showing me this! Since my ensatina is wild I will try things like wood bugs and some beetles easy to digest :)

Depending on the type of live food you use dusting might be needed. One example that comes to mind is crickets. Crickets are low in calcium. If you use crickets as a staple you should dust with calcium once a week to once every couple weeks. Calcium deficiency is a common problem in amphibians in captivity. Their may be instances where occasionally dusting with reptivate would be helpful too.

Okay thanks! I just put cut up night crawlers and a wood bug in her food bowl. I think what I just gave her doesn't need dusting. I have not gave my ensatina worms so she might not eat them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
