Where can I buy?

Hello there! I have been reading around the board for awhile now, but have not ever posted. I wanted to say hello to every one and to ask a question. I am trying to find a place to purchase a few axolotls. I had an Axolotl in the past when I lived in Florida, but since I have moved to Kentucky I have no idea where to look. This town is very limited in what types of animals they have. I have looked online as well, but have only come across 1 place that sells them. I just bought a 55 gallon tank, and want to fill it up with a few of these cool creatures.

Good luck with your hunt

Hi there and welcome --

If you scout around, there are usually a few people who have bred or are breeding their axies in the States. It took me forever to find my axies, and eventually gave up and got mine from a biological supply company.

There are a couple breeders on the boards, some of them do it for profit, others don't.

As for a 55G, you could keep 4 adult axies in there very comfortably.

Another big question on my mind, is if I finally find a few axolotls is it safe to have all the same sex? I don't think Im ready to start breeding them yet

I wasn't sure if they would fight because of this or not.

I applaud you for being one of the few "new" axie people who openly admits to not being ready to breed them.

I'm sorry I can't really answer your question, since mine aren't sexually mature yet, plus I'm not sure and I don't want to give you the wrong information. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here who'll be able to steer you in the right direction.

As long as you don't overcrowd them. maintain plenty of hidy holes and keep them all well fed then you shouldn't have too many problems with keeping all same sex; other than being able to find axies old enough in a shop to tell what sex they are.
