As per the title, I'm in Melbourne, Australia and first-timer attempting to hatch axie eggs! I have no experience in breeding live food, but I understand that my hatchlings will need it once they do hatch (LFS suggested that frozen brine shrimp would be fine because it has a strong smell, ha!)

So, the question is, where do I start? Do I have to grow my own or can I buy a supply for their first month? Either way, where can I get BBS in Melbourne and what else do I need?

Any assistance greatly appreciated :)

The BBS should be freshly hatched so you need to do it yourself. That way they are most nutritious. Here's a very good tutorial: Brine shrimp hatching and harvesting tutorial. It's quite simple, but you might want to do a test run before the axies hatch to find out how long it takes for you to get the brine shrimp to hatch, and maybe run two hatcheries (at different stages) to make sure you have a constant supply. I got my brine shrimp eggs from Ebay, but some fish stores sell them too. Just make sure they're the kind that will hatch (I bought the 90% hatch rate ones and was very happy with it).

Raising my first batch I've found axolotl.org breeding and rearing sections extremely helpful so you might want to take a look too if you haven't already: breeding and rearing.

Ok thanks. I'm reading up on that. Will have to source some eggs, and some more pumps, and a light - and somewhere to plug all those power cords in!!

Thank you :)
