Hi there I have a couple axolotls, one is in perfect shape (in their own 20gallon tanks). My one thought had white fluff about 6months back on his right gill, did a water change kept an eye on him. He healed great! Now just a few days ago seen more white fluff on his left side which has gotten to 2 outta 3 of his gills. Now I think just today I seen a few white spots developing on his body. It probably started when I was late for a water change. :( I’m desperately seeking help on what to do to remedy his condition. I’ve ordered Methylene blue but it won’t be in for a couple days. Should I do a 100% water change? Or would that stress him even more? Please help I’ll post pics of both his gills & body. He’s still eating but I’d say about 70% of what he normally consumes, & also not as friendly & active it’s almost like he tries to hide his fungus :(

Hi Morgan, I'm really sorry to hear that's happening. This happened to me 2 weeks ago. It's hard to say without knowing your water parameters, so please include that information so someone can advise on how to treat the water. First, don't do a 100% water change. Read this thread from when this happened to me for some directions on what you can do, and see how much of it is congruent with what you're experiencing. In short, you can either tub your axolotl in dechlorinated water with 100% Holtfreter's + 0.2 g/L magnesium sulfate or you can treat the entire tank with this combination (I recommend doing this option). This video is very helpful in preparing a concentrated 80X 40% Holtfreter's solution (in American measurements), so add 1 cup of concentrated solution for every 5 gallons to make your tank 40%, 2 cups for 80%, and 2.5 cups for 100%. This, along with daily 10-minute methylene blue baths, will most likely fix your problems and help your axolotl beat the infection. If you have any questions, let me know.

Hi there sorry I just got another testing kit. His results were pH 7.6, high range pH 7.4, ammonia 0 ppm, Nitrite 0 ppm & nitrate 10 ppm

Good to hear levels are where they should be. Any GH and KH measurements? Those measurements will help determine ideal Holtfreter's concentrations moving forward. But first, I'd do exactly as I said as soon as is possible for you.

I can get them asap my apologies this is my first lil axi & I’m learning as I go, I had no idea about the GH & KH :( But I will make sure to get the tests tonight. I’m looking for the ingredients in my city for the holt solution. Do you think it would be better to tub him immediately until I can get the solution put together or leave him as is because his levels are ok so far (without knowing the GH & KH yet)

His GH is 180 & his KH is 80. Hope this helps :)

Hi there! :) Thank you so much again! My lil guy is doing AMAZING! He had his first blue bath on Monday, & the next day was back to full appetite & 100% normal activity & being his friendly little social self :)) I’m continuing with the baths once a day for a total of 4-5 days to be on the safe side (I let him bath for 20min). Should I do it for any longer than that for time or days?
