White-ish growth in my fire bellies mouth help!!!

Got this newt a couple of weeks ago and put him in my 20 gallon tank with my newt Ive had for two months (so I'm a beginner). Ever since I got the second one (Toothless) he's had a larger throat/jaw area than the other one which I thought was just variation between individuals. He also sits a lot with his mouth open, I thought he was waiting for bugs. But when he was in the water today, it seemed hard for him to move around because his head kept dragging so I picked him up and he has a white gray growth in his mouth. Is this mouth rot or something different? He seems really sluggish and sick. The other one seems fine so far... what should I do??

Separate them, whatever is wrong with him, he might be able to pass it on to the other guy

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
