So I have a friend who is giving me her 30x30x30 aquatic tank and I have the opportunity, and would like to, purchase 2 Alpine newts.
Would this tank be alright for them until I can get my hands on a much larger tank?
I do plan to fill it with plants and build land masses upwards in it :)
Regards

Do you mean 30cm or 30 inches? If you mean 30cm it will only hold just under 7 gallons so is too small, the minimum water volume recommended for aquatic species is 10 gallons. Less water than that can make water quality and temp very unstable.
If you meant 30 inches then it should be fine.

Yes it's 30cm :S It would only be for a couple of weeks, not a permanent home for them, until the store gets there stock of tanks back in :/

That is a very small tank.. I've had experience in having to keep herps in small tanks for a short amount of time and they seem to be okay in the temporary tank. However, 10 gallons is about the minimum size I would go for one newt and since you are considering purchasing two, I believe that it would be a pretty tight squeeze and a lot of waste for both of them (especially since it will take a few weeks to upgrade to a bigger tank). Also, you should consider that whenever you purchase a new animal, there can be a lot of stress on the animal with being taken out of its current enclosure and placed into a new one. If the conditions of the new enclosure are dissatisfactory (i.e. too small, too hot, too cold, etc.) it can be an extra stressful experience for the new animal :(. I would suggest either purchasing another tank of appropriate size or holding off on purchasing the newts until you have a good, permanent setup for them. I hope that helps!

Thank you, I shall see if I can find a slightly larger tank then :)
