So, Sometimes when I give my Axolotls certain worms, they gobble them up happily enough, but then spit them out and show no more interest in that worm. It only happens with worms that are already under the weather, like the ones I just got who were in a concentrated tub, or one I took out of my wormery when I had let it get too dry. Anyone know whats going on here? will these worms be ok eventually?

some worms give off a yuk taste. just soak them for about 20mins and they should be ok.

Oh, really? Thats good to know. I did know that red wigglers can produce a bad taste when stressed, but these are nightcrawlers... perhaps all worms produce bad flavor when stressed?

Another possibility is that the axolotl just isn't very hungry. They will often gobble food even if they are full, then spit it back out. As temperatures cool, it takes longer for them to be ready for the next meal. Mine are definitely not ready to eat another whole worm the next day after eating.

Ive noticed that my axolotls prefer certain types of worm, i dig them up from my garden and i mainly get two kinds, i dont know what they are called, one is very stripey and the axolotls will grab it and then spit it out though my clawed toads who arnt as fussy and will eat them.

Some worms such as Tiger worms, excrete a substance which is meant to deter other animals from eating it, so just soak the worms prior to feeding them, or allow the axie's to hunt their own worms?

i have taken your advice , my axolotl is now sneaking around the garden looking for his dinner.

I've also found that sometimes nightcrawlers can ooze a lot of mucus. The more mucus-y ones tend to get spit out more often.

That might explain why Frangipane hates them.

LOL, this tickled my funny. Mine set up a worm farm; they know winter is coming. Trouble is, its in the tank, so they keep drowning.

I didn't mean literally, lol. Just put the worm in their tank, near their eyes and they can catch it themselves, I used to have to do this with Pinky, as she wouldn't eat them from tweezers. Plus it's enrichment! :p
