I've not posted before so please bear with me.
I have two female axolotls in a 6 ft tank on soft river bed sand, they have a filter and plenty of hiding spots. They always eat earthworms ( I order them in and have a live wormery near their tank) the temp is usually between 10-18 degrees and it's regularly kept an eye on and cleaned, I've had both of them together since they were little and they are now approx 5 years old. One female is fine and eating the same in fact she's greedy! The other one hasn't eaten in just over two weeks. I had used a spare filter I had while cleaning my other one and realised it had gravel filters inside some of the gravel had got out into the tank - I think she attacked it and she swallowed some. I managed to lift her out of the water into a tub and removed some detritus from her mouth extremely quickly and put her back. I've checked her like this four times now but only removed a little bit as I couldn't see anything ( I'm a zoologist and auxiliary vet nurse so aware of not to stress her) anyway I've tried putting the worm in front of her every day of every different size she won't eat and is actively shying away. I also noticed horrible white worms type creatures today when I lifted her out into a tub of her tank water to check her mouth - not sure if planaria as there is never any food laying around as they always get fed from my hand straight to their mouths- could they be infesting her making her not eat? Should I take her to a vet and see if there's something stuck further down or should I put her in the fridge and clean out the tank again for the other healthy girl? I have done a three quarter water change in the last week and I've been trying to keep the temp down under 20 as it did rise one day to 22.
The only other mistake I made was occasionally I give them fresh plants as the greedy one loves climbing them due to my own ill health I hadn't orderered any I stupidly used some from my outside pond straight to the tank without properly checking the plants I'm worried that there might have been something on that plant i immediately took it back out as I realised what I had done. I have never done that before or ever will again
I'm so worried and I'm worried I'm hurting her by not doing anything or doing the wrong thing. I won't be handling her again to check her mouth as I'm scared it's hurting her more.
