Zoo Med Turtle Dock

I use this as an island for mostly aquatic amphibians. The advantages are; it floats and the rails keep it in one place yet allow it to rise or fall depending on the water level, The space under it is usable not wasted like a solid colum would be, and fairly cheap (I got some small ones for $6.00),they come in 3 sizes, they can take a fair amount of weight with out sinking.
Comments?

Jen, I got a turtle ramp and didn't like it because the paint on my turtle ramp comes off in bits and pieces. Did you have problems with this or did I just buy a defective ramp?

Mine are colored plastic with the pigment embedded so it does not come off.

I have one and my t. granulosa love it more then anything else i've put in there for the past 2 years, also no chipping.

Hehe, I was doing a search on google for this and ended up here (considering buying one for a display tank). How ironic is that?

Interesting stuff. I think I might spring for one.

I checked out that site that Alan posted, and was wondering about that one method of creating your own floating island, one used the expanding polyurethane foam...Is that stuff really safe for amphibians, im sure it has a bunch of chemicals! has anybody used this before in their tanks??

I use the "turtle dock" in one my newt tanks. Always had good luck with the suction cups sticking. I put moss and small plants on it. I really like, so do the newts!

I have one on with my warty newts to great effect they rarely walk around on top of it it but they seem to love the shelter it provides.
However I paid €15/20 for it in a shop here in Dublin so $6 seems like a bargain to me.

Hmm, the Turtle dock seems nice, but it would also might be bad, because you can not fill it, you know if you wanted to put soil in and have plants and stuff. But I guess maybe you could do that with the expandable foam idea. Im'm gonna try it, thanks for the link.

I like using the corkbark. Boil the cork bark and add java moss and wa la one floating island.

That seems like a good idea, I think I have seen this done somewhere.

Hey Mike I looked for that floating thing couldn't find it were did you buy it?

Here is my idea for the perfect island. If you are at all interested, I could give anyone details.

Do you have any more pictures of that island? it looks funny, are there rocks on a pot (that almost rhymed) or something?
