A snail appeared in my tank

I looked in my axolotl's tank and there was a very small black snail inside. I have no idea how it got there what should I do with it.

It most likely came in on some live plants. Take it out or leave it your axie might eat it. They dont get vary big. If you dont want them at all in your tank take them out every time you see them your tank might over run. It happens all the time.

There's plenty of fishies about that'll gladly take care of that snail, if you have another tank and the snail is bothering you pop it in there.

I purposefully put snails into Spyyk's tank, as they go round and clean up any dead plants or algae.
Sometimes they get found and eaten, but they do a great job.

Throw the snail away asap.....
I had one small innocent looking snail and all of a sudden there was like a thousand of them. ( I mean it -1000) . My axie got sick for 2 weeks after the snail attack. I had to change most of the water twice in one week, take out the sand- put it in the sun, fish out the snails one by one.

They put the ammonia levels of ur tank out of control so ur axie will get sick if you leave it. I d rather kill one snail than let my axie die.
Even like two months later I still get some snails coming out from nowhere.

i guess this is why people are so insistant on quarantine for plants and new animals

What happened to you, Chathuranga, is fairly common. Snails can reproduce out of control, all they need is a food source. But I disagree with your interpretation of what happened. Waste in the tank (leftover food, poo, plant debris, etc.) do 2 things: feed the snails and cause the water quality to go bad. The water quality is what made the axolotl sick. The snails were a symptom, but they didn't cause the problem.

People sometimes want snails (or other scavengers) because they think that the scavengers will "clean up" waste in the tank. They do clean it up, but they just reprocess it into snail poo, which isn't a big improvement. It still causes the water quality to go bad.

Here are some articles that might help.
