Hey!
For 3 years, I've wanted an axolotl, and I'm finally setting up a tank for them! :D I figured I'm going to need some help with this, and seeing this is one of the few forums that deal with these guys, I decided to sign up.

I've been in the fish hobby for 2 years, so I've got all the basics down. My plan is a 40g breeder with 3 axolotls; a leucistic, a copper, and a melanoid or a wild type. Maybe I'll make a build thread or something if that's a thing you guys do c:

So excited to meet you all! See you in the forums!

Hi, welcome to the site!
If you're used to keeping fish you should have no problems with Axolotls. :)

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
