I've been looking all over these forums for some light blocking advice, but I haven't seen any about axolotls specifically and people who may have experience with this. If I missed some threads, please point me in the right direction!

Ok, so! I've had my axolotl for 3-4 years now and I hate where I have her. The placement of the tank is away from sunlight but super ugly, and I really want to put her in front of my window that only gets direct sunlight in the early morning (when the curtain are drawn and I am asleep). I was wondering if you all thought it would plausible if I had some kind of plastic thing I put on the back of the tank to block out the (indirect) sunlight. Currently I cool the tank with one computer fan that keeps it at 68-70F but I can add another fan if necessary.

I know it can still heat up (+ temp fluctuations) even with a cover (heat transfer and all), so maybe I could use some Styrofoam in between...? I just want to know if this idea is totally idiotic and not going to work before I commit to it, so I was hoping someone might have some prior experience trying something like this.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
