I have had pair of fire salamanders for 3 years, yellow and black. Today for no reason, the yellow is now an orange shade. Nothing in the viv has changed. Anyone any ideas?

It may be the darker colour is an indication that they are now mature ?Do you know which species they are?

I don't know, but found it strange they did this . Is this common?

No idea, but the only other things I could think of that might lead to a change in colour would be food related. But if that was possible I think it would be gradual, or as I said a response to hormones photos might help did you see their parents? Are they captive bred?

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
