Hi, noticed a white spot on Sasha's gills this morning. I'm pretty sure she has fungus, but want more experienced eyes on it before I salt bath her.

She's in a 20 gallon long tank, 0 ammonia, and low nitrates, temperature around 62F., but I can't get the nitrites to 0, they are around .25. I'm doing 25% water changes daily.

Here is the photo (I hope) please give any advice. She's my first and I have had her less than 3 weeks.

Looks like fungus to me I'd proceed with salt baths and it should clear up pretty quick.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
