Hi all. I'm Ben from Wisconsin and brand new to axolotls. I saw a picture of of years ago and thought it was a Photoshop. I only just discovered last week that they are in fact real. I currently have been into fish (just put together a black water Angelfish tank) and am wanting to branch to axolotl. I've been reading through the forums to learn as much as I can and will be setting up a 20g tall tank for a juvenile this week, and will ultimately upgrade to a bigger tank as it gets bigger. I look forward to learning as much as I can from this great forum!

Welcome! Got a picture of that angel tank?

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
