My axol, Banana is very energetic and enjoys swimming. She is currently in a 20 long but I have been thinking about moving her to a 29 gallon because it's got similar floor space and I can put in multiple raised areas for her to swim and rest in. She currently swims laps nightly around the tank. Anyone else tried this for a spaz?

I have my very active juvie in a 29 gal and he uses every inch of the space the only downside is tank maintenance is a bit more of a hassle as my whole arm gets wet reaching to the bottom! Make sure to test your water in case his restlessness is due to a problem there but some axi are just hyper it seems :)

We test water regularly and it regularly comes up within normal parameters. In fact we just finished her weekly water change. She's just my little spazzy Banana.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
