This isn't about captive care and more of a question about getting western tiger salamanders to choose my backyard pond for breeding.

I know they generally avoid bodies of water with either fish or crawdads. Would they still avoid it if its something small and completely non-threatening like mosquitofish? Also do adult tiger salamanders still hunt underwater and would they see the mosquitofish as an attractive treat?

The mosquito fish wouldn't be a problem to the adults, but if you want them to breed that would be a different story. I'm pretty sure Mosquito fish are known predators of amphibian larvae, so a breeding population wouldn't establish.

Would the adults hunt and eat the mosquito fish?

I thought that they would be too small to eat the larva tiger salamanders.
