Hello! I have a quick question, and it should be pretty simple.

I'm going to be shipping my axies to new homes soon. I know that they need to be shipped in an insulated container, and I will be including an ice pack in the container to keep them cool. My question is about the plastic bag in which the axie will be placed. I think it makes a lot more sense to make the bag 1/2 filled with water and 1/2 filled with air, and then I'll put the axie inside the bag, secure the bag with a rubber band, place the bag inside the insulated foam container, place the insulated foam container in the shipping box provided with it, and send him/her off.

Is this the correct way to do it? Should the bag have 1/2 water and 1/2 air? I'm just concerned that with all that air inside, the axie can get tossed around and injured a lot more easily. But I do want to provide him/her with enough oxygen to make it through the journey. If I fill the bag completely with water and no air, then the axie will probably be safer as far as being transported, but I don't think that the water would have enough oxygen in it for the axie to breathe for a couple of days...

If any of you are seasoned axolotl shippers, I'd really appreciate some input!

Thank you!

When I have both shipped and received juvenile axies, it's been half water, half air and no signs of trauma. I don't have any experience with shipping adults.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
