Hi everyone,
I was just wondering...
1) Does the water hardness in the tank effect an axies ability to swim through the water?
2) Is it normal for axies to eat sand just after Ive fed them (frozen blood worms)
-Thanks;)

Not a clue about the water hardness question but axies will sometimes eat sand while trying to eat thier propper food. If they think they can see food on the sand they will eat it. Sand shouldn't cause a problem if eaten unless it is huge quantities of sand.

Thanks Dan. Yea i just thought it was a bit strange. Sometimes i even catch them sitting there eating sand. weird

Water hardness is a measure of how much dissolved minerals (mostly calcium and magnesium) is in the water. No, it certainly has no effect on how easy it is to swim through.

Axolotls will often eat gravel (probably looking for more food). However, this is VERY DANGEROUS. Search through the forum archives and you'll find loads of stories about gravel impaction.
