I got a nice new camera so I decided to take some pics of my 3 T. Grans.

This one is Sal.

This one is Newton. When I first got him I was worrie about the bump on his head, but I have had him for almost a year and no problems.

This is Twitch. Twitch is the most photogenic and active of the three.

Those are some whopping long tails. Are the ones with long tails male or female?

Nice pics. The large one looks like he may be getting into the pantry a bit after lights out. Gotta love the Tg's. They are without a doubt my favorite.

I think the long-tailed ones are female. But don't quote me on that. Where's Pin-pin when we need her?

I have no idea what sex any of them are. Maybe someone could shed some light on this for me. I can take other pics to help aid in this.

I am mostly stuck in lab. ;) I sense a trend in my career choice.

I remember that male Tarichas were the ones which had longer and broader tails. The reasoning behind this was that it would allow the males to swim away from competitors during amplexus.

I don't think there are any body to tail ratio which would let you determine the sex from this though, so (like many things in biology), I feel it's speculative at best.

The best way is of course to look for signs of an enlarged cloaca and also clasping behavior (although the newt being clasped may not necessarily be a female (or even newt!))

Good pictures iceberg, those are definitely well fed!

The only one I have seen any clasping behavior from is sal. Sal has clasped onto Newton on a few occasions.
