Hi, I'm First post in here!
Have 1 question...I have heard of some people using garlic to help with Axis infectionswith good results.
Does anybody know more about this methodand how to use it?
I understand some garlic is put into the tankwater but don't know how much etc...
And want to make sure, is this method won't harm Axis...!?
Thank you

What sort of infections is this suppose to treat?

I think they were lying, garlic dirtys the water and poisenes( bad spelling sorry) the axies
Cheers Tom

axiroxx - where did you read about using garlic? I've never heard of this. I'm curious, but very skeptical.

Are you currently having problems with infection? There may be some more conventional alternatives.

Hi, Thanks for all.
I heard this method from someone few years ago but I'm not sure.
Well, my axi didn't have fungus infection etc...but cut her leg.
So, I just wondered if it's helps my Axi, will not get fungus infection...
However I don't want to take risk.
If someone know about this method or other method to avoid fungus or other bactarial infection please let me know... Many Thanks:happy:

I've heard of people using Tea tree oil but never garlic... The tea tree oil works with fish I know that, so mabey do research before even considering it for Axolotls...

The use of tea tree oil in amphibians is questionable from both a safety and effectiveness standpoint - please see this thread and discussion on Melafix (tea tree oil is its active ingredient):

Axiroxx - If you haven't seen this article from Caudata Culture on symtoms and treatments of caudate illness, you may want to review:

As to the use of garlic, I have not heard of this as a treatment. In mammals, garlic as well as onions can inhibit platelets from aggregating and cause bleeding. Specifically in dogs, there are reports of hemolytic anemia with ingestion of large amounts of garlic or onions. Would it have the same effect in caudates? Don't know, but without documentation of safety and effectiveness, I would not use it.

I once visited a guy who worked in an amphibian section in an aquarium in Portugal, and he used garlic to treat them. This guy used to post in this forum, but it was nearly 2 years ago.
