Question: Beginners Axolotl question

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

I love that you took the spellings in the (presumed) way they were meant - a lot of people can get moody on forums, since it's difficult to show emotion, but looks like the most important equipment - the feeder / carer - is already a great model ;)

Off course it was meant funny and not mean! :D
I'm not a mean person and I write 100000 mistakes in English myself lol

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

Dont worry i did not think you were. i was abit unsure what you ment like memojo1979 said its hard to show emotion.

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

I got my first axi from a pet shop, but onyl because I didn't know about this site. Still next time around I'd try for a breeder first.

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

Thanks. Boo Penguin i like your avatar where did you get it?

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

I'd have alook at any that are close by - if a LPS has the correct basic conditions (no gravel, little water movement, enough space for the axies, cool water, e.t.c.) + only then check if the axies look healthy. If yes to all, then I'd say that local is better than travelling. But, that unfortunately does seem to be a rarity.
Of course, if a caudata member with baby axies is nice + close too, then that's even better ;)
If no LPSs have axies keep properly + in good condition, then I would choose caudata over more distant LPSs.

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

oooh where abouts in the uk are you. our 31 babies are about 4 months old at the moment so will be ready in about a month or so time, which would give time for cycling tanks and researching etc... im in surrey/south west london.:)

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

i live in hants or hampshire near portsmouth. i go to surrey at christmas and sometimes summer hoidays.

Re: Beginners Axolotal question

thats good your not too far away, I picked ours up from Kent and took about an hour which is about the same distance you are from me :)
have a think, if you are up this way let me know. at the moment ive a mixture of wild types, leuistic and golden albino

By the way, they travel surprisingly well by train ;)
Every axolotl I've collected for myself (I have 5 now) + for other people (I've collected a total of 9 others, when collecting mine) have arrived at my house nice + safe after train journeys of 2-3hrs, plus waiting at stations + multiple train changes e.t.c. :D

what do you carry them in? do you carry them in bags like fish

when I originally bought mine I transported them back in bags. I put the bags in a box to keep them cool and in the dark. when I moved house the adults went in bags again and the babies went in tupperwear boxes stacked in a bigger box with foam inside to keep them from moving about too much.

Seems like there will be a load around in a month or so. Mine might be ready then too. Except I don't really want to sell mine, they are all too cute! Not sure where I'll be able to put them all though...
