HiI have an axolotol that has stopped eating. We have had a heat wave for the past week where temperatures have been over 40 degrees since christmass. Wondering if this could be the reason. I am considering force feeding him.I would .welcome any advice on how to do this

What is the tank water temperature?
Have you tested the water - what were the parameters?

How long / old is your axie?

If your axie isn't a juvenile it can go without food for a little while without cause for concern - if it looks skinny or unwell then eating is essential. Force feeding should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

Post a pic of your axie from a couple of angles & your tank - that'll help to work out what's going on.

I changed the water yesterday and the temperature has cooled down. he tank is 91 cm long 35cm wide and 44cm high. He shares the tank with another smaller axie and a few guppys which are a recent addition. Alfonso is large and i have had him for 3 years I have no idea how long his previous owner had him.

As you can see from the photos he has a large growth behind one his eyes but this has not affected him in the past.

I would remove the gravel and the fish immediately.
Axolotls can sometimes accidentally eat gravel and it gets stuck causing problems, I'm going to guess that a blockage is the reason why your axie isn't eating.

With the fish, the axolotls are quite capable of eating them and fish sometimes like to nibble on the axies gills, stressing them out.


Also, how big are your axolotls and what is the temperature of your water?

The large one is 26 cm and the small one is 15 cm. If he has swallowed gravel what can i do about this. I dont know the temperature of the tank as i do not have a thermometer in there but it fluctuates with the air temp as we live in a old house

Hopefully he hasn't swallowed gravel but if he has here's hoping he can pass it with no aid. Build ups of gravel (for example) in the intestinal tract can cause impactions. Best thing to do is to remove the gravel and either have a bare bottom tank or one covered in a thin layer of sand. Hopefully, your axie can pass the gravel without fridging so just remove it as it comes out.
