New member axies, Sally and Gilly, would love to know their 'types'?

Hi these are my beautiful Axolotls. Sally is a right character, she is very affectionate and loves attention. And Gilly (the one with no gills!) is my new little angel. She caught my eye about 3 weeks ago as my local exotics shop had just got her in an ex breeder (a definate girl!) She was about twice the size of this and bounced around the tank in the store the life and soul of the entire shop. I went in yesterday to find her like this she looks like she has been stuck between a water heater and a rock for 3 weeks :( Iv got her in some nice cool water inj a little tank with an air stone. She only moving to gsp for aire so shes only in 5 inches of water and had a quarter of an earth worm last night. Not upto feeding this morning. Any regrowth/ fattenig up advice much appreciated :) Wish me luck ! I may also add, she first caught my eye as I noticed where one of her existing gills had been nipped she had grown a lovely feathery healthy looking gill branching off from one of her bottom ones, Boy i wish Id gotten her back then and not let her get like this :( I did also mention to the shop owner that they dont need a heater in there to begin with, He noted it was just set to room temperature.. I questioned why as the tank would be room temperature without it? Money making i think!
Oh and if any one could tell me their 'types' Id be very happy to know. Sally is very dark with speckles and black/pink gills and I assume Gilly is wild type as she looks wild she is brown speckled.

Sally is a wild type :happy: I'm very concerned about Gillys gills (or lack of them) has she always looked like that?
 
I hope the shop gave her to you! They most certainly should not be selling animals in that state!

Hi. Like I say, they got her 3 weeks ago she was at least twice the size and had EXTRA gills where shed previously been nipped and grown a gill on gill! She was an ex breeder, sadly the shop I got her from arent great with axies :( She seems a bit perkier today!

Wandering, I paid £25-00 for her, he asked for £40 for her 3 weeks ago as she was in such good state and has produced such beautiful babies! I told my partner I would buy every single one but like he says they would only buy more and treat them the same. There was others with no gills at all too :(

The first axie is gorgeous - I hope you can get Gilly back to health... but those gills are so gone :( breaks my heart.

Gilly may look similar to my little one splat & he's a bit of a mystery as to what colour he is too. What colour were the gills 3 weeks ago?

Her gills were more brown/grey not like Sals shes still not eating wish there was something they cant refuse lol shed feel so much better if she ate something! Sal didnt eat for a week when I first got her though so touch wood she'll come round :)
 
I'd say Sally is melanoid. Does it have a shiny eye-ring?

For Gilly (lack of gillies?), I would definitely keep her water level low, and provide places to haul out. The jaw structure seems a strange too. Not your normal looking axolotl...

Yes iv worried about this too. I do hope shes not morphing! But the more I look at her the more I see her facial structure looking very non axolotl. However when I first seen her 3 weeks ago she seemed very axie looking :/ (she had all her gills too!) She has no other signs of morphing. But im keeping a close eye on her! She barely gets 5 mins without me peering in to check shes alive! Shes in a big tank now, got the airstone on, still refuses to eat but Im hopeful for her :) cmon lass you can do it!
 
Sally looks melanoid from the picture, Gilly is a beatiful wild :)
Feel really sorry for this poor little thing without gills, I am sure your axie will get better under your care...I bought my melanoid from aquatic shop.Little guy was very skinny and it almost had no gills as they didn't really know how to look after axolotls, but today it's gills are much bigger and getting better in time :)

Today seems better again. She LOVES her new tank, got some live plants in to her with her breathing and another hideout. She met my cat Snarles Purrley late last night and quite enjoyed watching her (dont worry shes no way of getting in!)

Tried her with wax worms and meal worms today.. no joy. Going to try her again this evening. She did snap at the wax worm.. i hope theyre ok for her? But she missed then gave in straight away.

Back at the store I got her from today, I told ther how Id helped her recovery so hopefully theyll take some hints from me! They welcomed my advice which I was happy about!

Iv also been given some king fisher gill repair stuff for fish and other aquatics... Im not so sure about it.. Any advice??

Yeah on google images Id say melanoid, but she does have a shiny eye ring very shiny compared to Gillys!

I will also add, when I first got my eye on her she was twice this size, I described her as 'muckle' she was a beast her face was well padded, I wonder if her jaw structure is just because shes lost so much weight.. She made my axie look small when I first seen her and now my axie is clearly bigger! :( Just wish I could find something to tempt her to eat!

If she's got an eye ring she's not melanoid.
 
Be really careful about any water treatments you use, I understand that not many are axie safe. Hope she's feeling better soon!

Yup I read this, the guy who sold it said hes almost certain itll be ok.. theyre just fish afterall. Ouch. I felt like lecturing him lol, hes wife sounds as axie crazy as me im sure she'll tell him off! Itll come in handy if my fishies get sick I guess! Im going to email king fisher for advice but not sure id trust it anyway seems c.org are the only people to trust with our babies!
 
Keep trying with the waxworms. They're usually pretty irresistible, and if she's snapping at them, that's a good sign.
 
She took an earth worm earlier :D doesnt like hand feeding. I guess shes not used to it. Took her a loooong time to get it down and she pooped a pebble at the same time so touch wood shes on the mend :)
