Possible bloat? Please help!

I'm not sure, I think it's bloat but i can't figure out how he's managed to develop it, he seems to kind of... float a bit, not properly just his left side seems to bob in the water a bit.

He's maybe 6-7cm long feeding on bloodworms, is it normal to see organs on leucistics that age do you think? I can see red behind his front left leg and i'm pretty sure it wasnt there before, he's in a clear, plastic tray with only a bit of seaweed in it so it's not like he can be impacted.. I'm not sure what going on, can you fridge an axie that young??

Yes, it is normal to see organs on young leucistics. I don't know why you would want to fridge it. Mine were at around 18 degrees at this age. Not too difficult to keep cool in the UK at the moment. lol. Is the water dechlorinated and changed every day? Is the plastic safe eg food container? I moved mine to small glass tanks at this size.
Certainly doesn't seem to me that its anything too serious.
Maybe he just needs to eat smaller meals but more often. I was still feeding twice a day at that size, just maybe a dozen bloodworms each feed.
Seaweed? Perhaps you mean Java moss? Seaweed will rot and make bad water conditions.

I don't want to fridge him, I wanted to know if people think it's needed as he appears slightly swollen, my adults are taking up my tank presently so my young are in trays.

Yes it's a safe plastic, lunchbox tray and the water is treated and changed often. I do water changes every other day - complete ones and remove any uneaten food and poos twice a day.

Yes sorry i meant Moss not seaweed!!! He's being kept quite cool at the moment but I'm worried about the floating as there seems to be a slight swelling in the left side.
 
Hmmm... Well, we're at the edge of my knowledge here. Perhaps its gulped some air instead of breathing it when it last visited the surface. At this size its still a learner! If you've been browsing the site you might have seen a picture of a small leucistic before and after swallowing three pellets. You can actually see the pellets after its eaten them, lined up in its digestive system on its left side!

Perhaps someone with more experience will jump in now........

But I really think it's important to ask; what does the swelling look like? It may be that your axxie bumped themselves. If we can see a photo that will be amazing! Some vets specialise in axxies too and if you can it might be worth showing them to a vet or fellow axxie owner. Swelling in the head is a bit of a tricky subject so professional help might well be the only way you'll get a firm answer.

Hi - I took him to a vet, he's got the all clear :) Just some swelling over his liver that made it look more obvious!
 
Oh, that's amazing! So glad they're okay! What was the swelling, just some harmless fluid under the skin?

He thinks it was trapped water! it was pushing the liver forward so it looked worse than it was, there was no sign of illness other than that, possibly a bit of stuck food, he passed out a massive poo after anyway lol
 
Oh, I've never heard of trapped water before. Apparently some of the older axxies do have fluid deposits under their skin. It would explain a lot!

Haha, food goes in and comes out the other end = one happy axxie! LOL! :D
 
Hi there,Toothless has had wind in the past, which can be dietary, not sure on fluid retention. Sometimes a swollen abdomen can be if there is a blockage, depending on the size of your Axxie or if a food is too high in protein again this can relate to size and age of your beastie.best tip is to also ensure the food he has is not only easily swallowed but not too much either. over feeding can sometimes cause digestive problems.

Hopefully, a good poop will have sorted him out and he'll be back to normal. ;)

He is back to normal thank you!!! :) i think it was something trapped by over feeding, he gulped and snatched a lot of food up when I was trying to separate my blood worms!!!
