Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on tadpoles in a tank with axolotls as possible food?

What kind of tadpoles? Wild caught might pose the whole parasite risk but captive bred should be okay. Axolotls will prey on their own young as well as other frogs in the wild

They would most definitely be captive bred. Our most frequented koi supplier sells tadpoles that they breed in captive and just thought I might pick a few u this weekend since it is on the way to pick up our new 50 gallon tank.

How big? If you're positive your axolotls can swallow them then it should be fine but also keep a look out for that odd tadpole that stays hidden and then months later you find a dried up frog

About the size of a guppy. My axolotls are about 4 inches.

They should be able to eat them

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
