Favorite Axolotl-Tank Plants?

Just interested to see what people like the most. Specifically axolotl aquariums, low tech, etc.

But theres so many! I've had best success with aquatic hornwort (ceratophyllum), java fern (microsorum), java moss (vesicularia), narrow leaf ludwigia (ludwigia palustris), anacharis (elodea) and water sprite (Ceratopteris) to name a few. I use these because theyre common to find and tolerate the cooler conditions. Most pet shop plants are tropical but some tolerate a much broader range of temperatures.

In my main axy tank I currently have Java fern, anubia, and an Amazon sword. They all do really well with minimum care. I was really worried about the sword but it's become so much bigger in just a few months.

I have anubias nana in some overturned and drilled out tarra cotta pots. I would like to get some java moss on driftwood and amazon sword aswell.
I do have a bunch of pothos house plant growing in a basket in my tank, im pretty sure it helps to reduce my nitrates

My all time favourite is java moss. It seems to grow really fast in minimal lighting, which is prefect for the conditions you need to have an axolotl. My axy hides in there a lot of the time and it looks great in my opinion. Other than that, all I've managed to keep successfully are java ferns, but they get unsightly brown spots which sprout out little roots and leaves of baby java ferns. It doesn't look nice and they always create them! So I get a little annoyed with that, because I have so many planted now, that I have to throw them away as soon as I see them sprouting. They also appear to dye the sand brown/black even though I washed them throughly before planting them. And if I have to uproot them, they give off a sulphuric gas which smells bad and must be of questionable health for an axolotl. I personally wouldn't recommend them, but maybe I'm not giving them the correct care they need,but in that case, who wants a plant which needs lots of work?

Your java ferns are not being properly cared for, a lot of ferns will sprout baby plants as a last ditch effort before they die. Java ferns are generally not a difficult plant to care for, you might just be lacking nutrients in your water.

You don't plant Java Fern, you tie it to rocks or driftwood. If you plant the rhizome in sand it will suffocate.

I have them wedged between rocks so they don't float away, but their roots are not submerged and neither are the rhizomes.

Maybe it's just healthy and spawning more plants.

They never appear to die and they are always growing.
