Almost done cycling and setting up my tank, how does it look?

Hi everyone,

I've been cycling my tank for about 3 weeks now and this weekend I've just finished adding the rest of the plants and rocks. Can I get an opinion on the set up based on an Axolotl's preference? I know that sounds kind of funny but I just want to make sure it's right and that they will be happy. I plan to get a male and female. The tank is 50g, 36"x18"x18". They each will have their own "rock" house/hiding place. There's hiding place under the mopani driftwood as well as behind and under the rock/slate setup in the back. I've read they need an elevated place to walk around/swim to so is the slate in the back ok or should I add something else somewhere higher?

Nice looking tank. If you get 2 axolotls, even though you've given them "a hide each", quite often you'll find them squashed into the same hide together, which is quite cute. It's good that you've given them the option of separate spaces, and they've got a lot to explore.

I do not in any way expect them to each use those houses but I did want to offer something more secluded if they want to get away from the light.

I plan to get more plants Chris! 6 different species as of now including the moss. I'm hoping the ground cover takes over a bit and I'm really they don't pull them up, which I'm totally expecting them to! haha.

Vangee this means that they think your tank is awesome! They are saying that your tank is so good that it is the goal for their aquarium.... They wish that they could have your tank as theres!

Your tank is fantastic by the way! I really love your aquarium and wish that I could have it! I am setting up my tank right now and I hope that you dont mind but I might end up copying your tank a little bit! I love the marimo and all the plants, i have some plants but now I think i might get some more... Thanks for all the help.
