I was wondering what the best way to move my axie from his small tank to a bigger one would be? He's gotten a too big,but I'm not sure as to how I will move him to the new tank? I was told to not use a regular fish net because of the chance that his little toes of feet might get caught in the holes.

He's about 6 1/2 inches in length now. Thank you for any suggestions!

When I moved my axie I scooped him up in a glass container from underneath him and then slowly added in water from the new tank. After I added enough water for him to adjust to the new water I simply set the container in the new tank and let him crawl out. This is just a method I used but I'm no professional so you may want to seek further advice.

Back in March I collected 3 almost mature axolotls from someone looking to rehome them. I caught them by hand Silly Axolotls before placing them into suitable sized plastic bags containing tank water. Basically I treated it like a very large fish, but used my hands instead of a net.
Another way to move the axolotl is to put a suitable container into the tank and guide him into it. This is difficult with a plastic bag (but not impossible) and easier with a rigid container.
I hope that this helps.

Who told you this? I'm hearing this far too often now, it's a load of rubbish.
As long as you use a suitable sized net and support the underside while moving there is no risk.

That is handy to know.
I was told not to use a net by the people in the shop that I bought my juvenile axolotls from. Mind you, I should have been suspicious when they didn't ask me if I'd cycled my tank and told me that just leaving the water for a week would be fine.
We live and learn.

I move my axolotl with a net all the time and have never had a problem. You don't want to dump them out through: I gently lower the net into the new water and allow Fozz to swim out. Sometimes his toes will stick though, but you can just brush your hand on the other side of the netw to encourage him to let go.

Axolotls of all sizes can be safely moved in nets, I move hundreds weekly during tank maintenance with few probs, though you have to be carefully not to catch young larvae between the net and glass causing injury. Adults are generally moved by hand but it's an acquired knack to do it quickly without stressing them out
