Hello all,

I recently rescued an axolotl who is 7-8 months old and 5in. He is currently on his way to be shipped. I am wondering how I might best prepare for his arrival?

So far I have a 10 gallon tank, which I think I will leave bare until I figure out what his needs might be. I have some hides for him as well. I think I will probably just go with another sponge filter.

He apparently is not gaining weight even on a high protein diet. His gills are pretty small, and he is skinny as heck. Any advice for how to fatten him up? I hear repashy grub pie might work, where can I find that?

Tnanks, everyone!

It will be hard to tell until you have him, but you may have to take him to the vet to see if he is suffering from parasites. If he was fed live food at some point, he could have caught something.

Good thinking! The breeder unfortunately has told me that she wants to find someone closer to her so we will see if he comes into my care or not!

What is the high protein diet?
