Hey all,

I am a seasoned herp keeper but I have just recently gotten into newts. In the past I bred Salamandra salamandra (man am I sad I gave up my breeding group 15 years ago). I also work with dart frogs, mostly Oophaga and Ranitomeya and with Helmeted Geckos, Gargoyle Geckos, Day Geckos, Monkey-tailed Skinks, and Pancake Tortoises. All but a few of my current animals are CBB.

I am also interested in birding and herping (taking only photos) and general wildlife photography.

My day job is as a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University studying the role of Chromatin Regulators and Epigenetics in cancer.

Welcome to the site! Which types of Salamandra did you keep?

Not sure on the locale or subspecies. People (myself included) didn't seem to keep as much track then. They were likely one of the Alp subspecies though with the mostly black background and more golden-yellow spots. S. s. salamandra most likely. Definitely not one of the Iberian subspecies.
