I received a new lotl through ups and he or she arrived with an air bubble this past Friday. Never experienced this with any of my axolotls.....what do I do?

trying to get into this week. Not a lot of vets in my area that see axolotls. The breeder told me to encourage him/her to eat and keep the water nice and cold. It's been a week since he/she was delivered and the bubble doesn't look any better. :(

You need a vet ASAP. This bubble may be under the skin.. air bubbles don’t usually last this long & usually aren’t visible like that. Go to arav.org and you can find the nearest specialist. Good luck!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
