Hello! I need help with my axolotl! I had them for month an a half, the tank parameters and setup are how they are supposed to be. Female didn't eat for about a month! Since she came, she only had 2 tiny fish from my aquarium and that's it! The male eats normally. Now, the female got really big, like she's full of eggs.. Is that normal behavior?

Hi!
Few things to start:

- This does not look like simply eggs to me. Too lumpy and too broad. Especially considering she has barely eaten in almost two months, that makes me think either impaction or internal injury.
- One male and one female together in a tank means she will lay eggs eventually, and likely more often than is healthy for her. Do you plan on separating them eventually? Did you already spot any mating behaviour/spermatophores?
- What kind of fish did she eat? There are a lot of fish that can be harmful to feed to axolotls - might have something to do with the current issue.

And the standard questions:
- What are the tank paramaters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temperature, pH and hardness if you can)? "how they are supposed to be" doesn't tell us much.
- What do you feed (or what did you try to feed)? Did you feed them the fish on purpose? What other food do you offer the male? Combined with the course sand I see, this could also play a role in digestive issues.

All information helps. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your response!
I did see spermatophores about 5 days ago, next day they were gone, but nothing happened. 1 lemon tetra fish, 1 hasemania nana marginama.. When I offer her earth worm, she literally turns around from them! Since the beginning she didn't want worms, that's why I offered her fish.
Sorry, I tried to write it super short because I didn't really think someone will actually reply.. I did those small jbl tests, and all parameters were in line (I don't know much about testing).. The guy who had them for years told me to get that sand 😨

And yes, I do plan to separate them one day, I can actually separate them now if that will help! Tanks are 150l each
Male only eats earth worms, he had 2 fish as well though

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
