hi guys! I’ve had my axoltol (toothpick) since October, and she is about 11 months (according to breeder) and about 8-9 inches if I were to take a guess.I finally was able to get earth worms, specifically night crawlers, to feed her, and I just have a few concerns.
I fed her a very long (thin, wasnt thick) worm, thinking that it was smaller then it actually was (it stretched out a lot in the water). If I were to guess it looked maybe an inch longer than her full body? Tooth went straight for it and got about half of it down with ease, but the other half was sticking out. I actually ended up cutting the worm in half in the tank because I got really worried that she would choke.
She ended up going back for the other side of the worm! And eating it all! I was shocked.
Anyways, now she’s just sitting at the front of her tank not moving. Her gills are perfectly fine (not curled) and her tail his straight, no signs of destress, but she’s just kinda sitting there which is kinda abnormal for her. She’s pretty active for her age.
I was wondering if I should be concerned? She’s still reacting to me coming near the tank and stuff and it even seems like she is “looking” for more food. Is she just sitting there digesting and enjoying her amazing meal? (I was giving her bloodworms and pellets before, so I’m sure an earthworm was a nice upgrade)
Just love my girl so much and want to make sure she’s ok! I also now know to cut the worms before if it’s too long, not sure why I didn’t, but you learn from your mistakes
