Hi everyone!
I read all posts about feeding my axie and I know that I should feed him only about 2-3 times a week.
I decided to give my axolotl chironomus larvae (bloodworms) and small frozen shrimps. One cube of bloodworms is about 5g.
I give him one cube every day or two shrimps 3 times a week. For the moment I don’t have any earthworms.
What do you think- is feeding with bloodworms every day correct ? The portion is small in my opinion and can’t harm my axie.

Feeding frequency and quantity depends on the age and size of your axolotl. Their metabolism speed is also influenced by their tank temperature. As a rule, bloodworms in general are not good for axolotls beyond about 6 months old. Its basically like feeding them potato chips. There is really no nutritional value in it. For juveniles, feeding every day is pretty common, but for adults, 2-3 times per week or every other day is plenty as long as what you are feeding them is nutritionally balanced.

Thank you!
But is 5g tubifex frozen cube sufficient for my axie if I feed him 3 times a week ? Or I should give him two cubes ? He is about a year old.
I can’t give him earthworms often.
I will stop giving him bloodworms or I’ll feed him only 1-2 for crisp.

If you have trouble getting earthworms, you could also try pellets. They are more nutritionally balanced than bloodworms and are usually pretty easy to find and easy to store. Soft sinking carnivore pellets (sometimes referred to as soft salmon pellets) are fine. Even if you supplement those with the bloodworms, that would be ok too. Tubifex worms are actually worse than bloodworms, so i would avoid those except as a treat. The amount you are feeding is fine. Their body should be about the same width as their head so thats a good way to judge if you are over or underfeeding

You may have to cut them into a little smaller pieces since those seem quite big, but they should be fine otherwise

might take some time for him to get used to it, but my axololts love pellets. I don't know if you can find it in bulgaria or not, but repashy grub pie is another good food option. I usually order it online.

Yesterday I found earthworms in my garden and gave him two medium sized. He ate them but this morning I saw the earthworms chewed and spit out on the bottom of the tank. This was his first time feeding with earthworms. Is this normal ? Should I give him again ?
I’m still waiting for the repashy grub pie but I think it won’t arrive..
Also I found slugs but I’m worried to feed him with them. I read many different opinions. Generally we don’t use pesticides in our garden but I don’t know from where they are. The may be from neighbour’s garden. I’m not sure.. Is there a treatment for parasites and pesticides ?

Its possible that it was just too much all at once, especially if he hasn't had earthworms before. Also, certain species of worms produce a bitter slime when stressed and this can cause axolotls to refuse them or spit them back up. You can rinse the worms in hot water or blanche them first to remove some of that slime.

I would not feed the slugs.

Okay I won’t feed with slugs.
I will try with one earthworm rinsed in hot water. I think it’s a good idea to cut it.
