Should I Tub My Axolotl During Feeding?

My new pet just arrived and I am pumped to watch it thrive and grow.

It is pretty small and requires multiple feedings during the day, I was wondering if I should tub it during feedings or if I will have success in its 20 gallon long. I dont want to handle it too much and stress it out, but I also want to make sure it can find its food.

if it were me i’d probably just feed in the tank - handling can cause stress, especially if it’s multiple times a day.
what are you feeding your little friend?
also, show us pictures!! i’m excited to see them :)

I was able to get it to eat some blood worms during acclimation. Since then it has been exploring the tank and has checked out pellets when I drop them in but hasnt gone to eat them yet. The breeder had them on pellets before shipping so I wanted to keep the food familiar.

Im going to give it some time to settle and get comfortable before I grab some good pictures. Also need to figure out the best blue light source to bring out its GFP.

i’d try bloodworm cubes and pellets together - drop multiple pellets at a time and leave them there for them to explore and scavenge for (at least that’s what mine does)

i understand on the picture part :) - hope they settle in well !!!

It depends. I heard that if your axolotl is under 5 inches it shouldn't be in a tank with sand. If it's bare bottom then you'll be fine and you can feed it in the tank.
What I do, since my tank has sand, I'm tubbing my axolotl till it's big enough for the tank. I use a smaller container and scoop them up so bloodworms won't get around the main container. After I scoop it up and feed her she seems fine and stress-free! She eats without a problem! Then I pour her back into the bigger container/tub.

Thats what I was considering doing. I do have a bare bottom tank so I can easily feed in tank but I just want to do what is best for this little thing and get it eating.

If it's bare bottom then it should be fine. Just make sure when you're done feeding it try your best to get the bloodworms out of the tank. I use a turkey baster which makes the process 10x easier and faster.

That was my plan. I was thinking about getting a small dish to make it easier to put in the tank
