How to keep a cool tank

I have a 55 gallon tank that I’m gonna eventually move my axolotl in
The only problem is, I don’t know any methods to keep it at consistent cool temperature

a chiller is out of the question cause it’s way to expensive

Rn my axie is in a small tub with a fan on it keeping it low to mid 60’s all day

Any good methods to keep the tank cool?

same as your're doing with the tub; just use a fan. Use a small desk fan can easily lower the tank temp by 6 degrees. That's all I use on any of my tanks and them in the mid 60s even in florida summer.

another note, i used a battery powered fan that died within a day - probably best to use a plug-in fan

I have two USB plugged in fans that sit above my girl's tank. We don't have AC in my area, so I actually bought a chest freezer. I have like 6 special ice cube trays that I make ice for, using her treated water, that way it's not tap water going in. I also have a few ice packs that I put in a zip lock bag and I float them across the top of my girl's tank. It works wonders for keeping her tank cold. We looked into getting a chiller but it would have cost like 600 bucks, buying and getting it installed, when we got the freezer for 120 bucks and the ice packs are a dollar each.

I was able to score a mini-chest freezer from Target in my area. It's a decent one, doesn't use a lot of power, one side is axolotl ice, ice packs, etc, the rest is human food, so it kinda helped out the whole family to get it too. Just make sure you have the right car to get one lol. My friend and I went and his car is technically bigger, but we couldn't get it in, but we got my sub-compact car, that is a hatchback, and we got it home. Only issue was no viable rearview for a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion ! I’ll most likely be using ice packs to cool down the tank.

The ice packs are the way to go. Get like a thin, but strong thread, you can use it as a tether so they don't drift across their water surface and freak them out.
