I think my axolotl is sick

This morning, I tried to feed my axolotll some pellets, but he started to "cough" and it looked like their were crumbs coming out. The aquariums is 65 degrees.
 
UPDATE: I just watched as my axolotl coughed up a pellet, looked mostly whole. Did I feed him to much?
 
Last update: just watched my axolotl try to eat, but spit the pellet back out

theres a possibility that your axolotl just doesn’t like pellets, with mine, he only eats a certain brand. the others he spits out immediately. when you say it was “coming out” do you mean it was coming out of his gill slits or out of his mouth?

Could be any number of things. Could just not like the pellets. May have eaten too much or the pellet was too big. Sometimes theyll spit out crumbs like that when they're trying to crush the pellets down small enough to swallow. Usually its not a big deal unless it's happening all the time.

Thanks for the info! He seemed to make it come out of his mouth

Hs seems to be fine. He occasionally swims up to the top of the aquarium and makes a little bubble every 5-10 minutes. I just got him, so he isn't moving around much.

he should be fine, gulping air is fairly common

That's normal. Most times it's just little crumbs that come off when they "cough" like that. Both of my axolotls do that :) - especially my juvenile since the pellets are pretty big in his teeny little mouth lol. Sounds like no need to worry
 
After a couple months, He looks a lot better!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
