Today I completed: 1) first time deep cleaning my tank and performing a big water change. 2)moving my axolotl from his tank (and back into it) for the first time. and 3) rearranged his tank. I don't know if anyone cares at all, but it was a lot of work and a great feeling of accomplishment at the end of it so I wanted to share my success! :) have a fabulous day!

That looks great! Is yours a bare bottom tank? I have sand in mine which is lovely but a nightmare!

Sorry for the late response! Yes, mine is a bare bottom tank. I wanted to do sand because I thought it looked nice but the maintenance sounded like a LOT! 😄 I'm glad I didn't do sand though!

I bet - sand can be a nightmare - but I have found that a lot of the dirt simply sits on top of it.
Although, I do find it rather frustrating at times! I really like the tanks full of java moss to be quite honest - but this seems to be taking DECADES to grow!
Sand also I find gets on everything! I am forever pulling out plants, cave hides, rocks etc.

Also where did you keep your axi when doing a deep clean - as this is something I am thinking of doing. We are looking at moving the tank upstairs and I thought why not do a deep clean in the process!

I just guided him into a small tupperware plastic container (he's still pretty small so this was no problem for me) and placed a lid on top so he couldn't jump out. when I clean it again, I'll probably be doing a full tank upgrade, so next time I'd probably just keep him in the extra aquarium :)
