Hey everyone I just have had a few questions about my axolotl recently because he has been not swimming and when I try to move him he was unable to swim at all I believe it is his tail bc it is unable to bend and I believe it’s because he jumped out of the tank but he is also refusing to eat and when I tried to feed him his usual black worms he refused them and continued to lay on the bottom and now he isn’t moving at all I fear he may be dead if anyone knows anything as to why he is doing this please help. In the pictures that is actually a worm sitting in his mouth because he was eating it so slowly. Again if anyone knows what might be happening please help.

First of all he looks DEADLY thin, and his gills and gill stalks are almost non existent, and his tail is very very short he overall looks pretty unhealthy, and you said he jumped out of the tank, do you have a lid? The first thing i would do is check the water parameters. Axolotls may try to jump out due to hight toxicity or wrong temperatures or just too stressed in general. Second of all, i would get him checked at a vet, and do a 50% water change. Is he interested in the food when you wiggle it near him? If he is that might be a sign he wants to eat but is too sick too. It looks like he has some sort of parasite, so its essential you take him to the vet. His health is visibly detereorating by the second. Also i would look into adding a IAL (indian almond leaf) to his water. Keep me updated!

We are pretty sure he died today or last night :( because he isn’t moving and when we lifted him in his net he just fell out of it and was stagnant this just started happening last week and came out of nowhere we felt like we were doing a good job but I guess we weren’t :( But thank you for the advice and your input.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that as well :(
tbh, the water in your tank looks very cloudy, if ammonia levels were high he couldve had extreme ammonia poisioning, and he looks a little bit red, so that could be a reason for his passing

Our ammonia levels were always 0 the water is just cloudy because of a certain filtrate we have in the filter that has caused some carbon dust to go into the water but it isn’t always cloudy it just sometimes gets cloudy but our levels were always 0 for nitrite ammonia and our nitrates were usually 5-10 ppm which we regulated with water changes
