I have 1 juvenile axolotl in a 20g tank. He was recently floating so i tubbed him and put him in the fridge, he stopped floating and seemed pretty happy. This afternoon however he started floating again. I know axolotls just float randomly but is this something I should be worried about? He is trying to swim to the bottom but can't. I also havent seen any poop recently so is that a bad sign? The stress he brings me annoys me so much because I love him but I don't know why he keeps floating.

Glad you figured it out! My axolotl floats sometimes, glad to know it’s normal! They just sit there at the top looking at you all goofy “ahhhhhhhh what’s wrong!” “Oh haha you’re fine”

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
