Hello, my axolotl’s tank is currently situated in the same room as the pellet stove we use to heat the house. His tank typically sits at around 64-65 degrees but at the end of the day after the stove has been on it’ll be at 70-71. :( i know he can technically survive in the very low 70 range but i’d like to know if the jump and inevitable drop in temperature every day is stressing him out or creating a bad environment for him.

Thanks!

Just checking back in hoping someone would be able to provide some insight :(

Consistency is one of the most important factors of keeping a healthy pet. Are you able to move the tank so where else? What do you do to keep the tank cool?

Also welcome! I am so sorry it took so long for someone to see your post

Moving it isnt really a viable option. I currently have a standing fan on a table beside the tank on full blast 24/7 and have started using frozen water bottles when we have the stove on for longer periods of time.

What temp would the tank stay without a fan and water bottles? Perhaps consistency would be more important than perfect temps?

when i first setup the tank in late September i hadn’t used the fans or bottles or anything and it was sitting at around 70 if i remember correctly. But now with the pellet stove being on most of the time during the winter without those things it’d absolutely surpass 75 i’d imagine

Are you able to place a desk fan blowing on the tank in the evening? If not, I don’t know what else there is to do.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
