Hi, my name is Liz, and this week I became the caretaker for a Tiger Salamander. I have no experience with keeping such an animal. I have fostered Poison Dart Frog tadpoles; wild ones bring their tadpoles to my outside fish tanks, and I have brought some to my classroom to let the kids watch them develop, then released the young adults to the wild again. All my other pets are mammals. So far, Sal seems happy. I gave him a deep bed of Reptisoil and he burrowed right in. I am grateful to be part of this forum; I know I am going to need advice!

Aloha Liz, I’m new to the forum as well and my fascination for newts and salamanders has just begun! If you ever come across anyone who has “newts or salamanders”for sale in the islands PLEASE (!!!) let me know!!! 🙏🏼 Aloha!

Hi Jackson61! I am going to be moving to the Big Island soon and do not want to take my tiger salamander with me. Do you want him? Enclosure with self-managing "soil" ecosystem included. Free for the taking. Best to text me: (808)220-4098.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
