Fungal Infection in Iberian Ribbed Newt

This is what a fungal infection looks like in an Iberian ribbed newt. I figured it could be educational for keepers with no experience with these infections. Aladar is currently on the vet examination table right now.

oh dear that looks terrible. What has the vet suggested?
We had booked an amputation, but a few days later I noticed the fungus sloughing off. We cancelled the amputation, and I’ve been giving him salt baths and monitoring.

He has been in a 5-gallon Home Depot bucket since I saw the furry growth, filled ~1/3 of the way with a sponge filter rated for 20-gallons.

He’s also been shedding constantly, which makes sense because his body would want to yeet the bad thing off.

The attached photo is how is arm looked last night. I took it during his salt bath. He also ate some thawed bloodworms a few minutes later! It’s the second time he’s eaten since ~January 24th. He’s lost 5g since, from 33g to 28g.
